I’m 45 Years old, Married, Father of 5. Born and raised in Washington State where I served in the Army from 1999-2007 with 1-25th Inf Divison, 24th Inf Battalion S.B.C.T. as a heavy weapons team leader. I did a tour in Iraq (Mosul) from 04-05. My family and I moved from Washington State in 2018 to AZ. After a few years of being here, I didn’t really get out much, My wife encourged me to look into a Veterans organization such as the American Legion or the VFW in hopes I would find a group of veterans like myself to find things to do with. We went out the next day and stopped in at Post 61 in Avondale. We have been members since.
Walking in, I had no idea what the American Legion or any of the other entities (SAL, AUX ) were about. We were met with friendly faces who quickly and happily brought us up to speed on the organization as a whole as well as the other entities, their roles within the organization and community. This was something both my wife and myself were looking for. After being a member for a short time, I was introduced to the ALR at post 61. Although I had never owned a motorcycle or even knew how to ride, the ALR was very happy to welcome us with open arms and help when the time was right for me.
Owning a bike and riding was something I always wanted to do. What made it so easy was, number One, my wife was all for it and was just as excited as me. I had fellow veterans to watch my back, willing to teach me and cheer me on. knowing I had a solid support group behind me, I jumped right in. After a few short weeks, I had my endorcment and a bike for the first time in my life.
Since my time as being a member of Post 61 and serving as the President of Post 61 ALR, we have put on and participated in some of the largest rides in Phoenix and surrounding area, benefitting familys in need, provideing Christmas toys for familys, preparred meals, clothes, gifts and more to our community, local military and, 1stresponders as well as raised over $17,000 for a local Phoenix Police officer who was injured in the line of duty in 2022.
I ride because of what the organization does and stands for. I ride because of the positive impact it makes in peoples lives. I ride and live free for my brothers and sisters who didn’t make it home.
